Schulz on Lucy:
"When she was first introduced into the strip in 1952, Lucy was simply a cute,
doll-like figure with large, round eyes. Lucy began to develop her personality
when I started to call her a fussbudget. The fussier Lucy became, the more ideas
she gave me. Lucy comes from that part of me that's capable of saying mean and
sarcastic things, which is not a good trait to have, so Lucy gives me a good
outlet."
Lucy works hard at being bossy, crabby, and loud. She dispenses advice from
her psychiatric booth and is mean to her brother Linus, but madly in love with
Schroeder, who prefers Beethoven. Every year, she persuades Charlie Brown to try
to kick a football she holds, only to pull the ball away after he attempts
again.
