Schulz on Woodstock:
"Woodstock demonstrates perfectly my constant contention that the drawing
is vitally important. Until I developed the cartoon figure to that certain
point, Woodstock could not function. Now, all the birds look alike but are
'cartooned,' so they can express emotions."
Woodstock is Snoopy's best friend and
constant companion. He is not a particularly accurate flyer, and the
erratic lines he takes to get from his nest to Snoopy's doghouse often
result in crash landings. Woodstock talks birdspeak only, and finds
communication made entirely of exclamation points is all he needs to
express himself.
